Anju Khusal was the winner of our SEED collaboration with London College of Fashion. As the designer who best met the criteria she won a six-month placement at Volcom Womenswear European HQ in Biarritz, France. Anju has been in charge of designing her own capsule collection from conception to delivery and this collection will form part of the Volcom Fall 2011 line.
Anju Khusal: "I was given the freedom to create 15 pieces ranging from tailored blazers to handbags. Most of the inspiration came from my personal journey as a growing designer combined with my fascination with Japanese art and fashion. Origami became an important element which I incorporated in my line with details such as pleats on skirt, folds on shirts and even origami inspired prints for the linings. The overall look of the collection is a youthful rock n' roll vibe with a Japanese quirky and luxurious elegance.
I developed fabrics that would add luxury and quality to the line as well as incorporating unusual premium fabric like bamboo cotton, silks yarns and brocade. Key details in the line are tailored collars, padding on shoulders and knees, exposed zips and embossed textured fabrics."
You can follow her whole story on her blog
We are about to do the SEED catalogue photoshoot so come back in December to see Anju's collection!
SEED by Anju Khusal will be available in Fall 2011.
